When the Buddha Needs Therapy - Fall Practice Period 2025
When does the Buddha need therapy?
Dharma Talk by Daiden Dan Pecaut
Saturday, November 1st
10:00 am - 12:00 pm ET (New York)
Online
“Japanese Zen is the perfect vehicle to totally and completely awaken you in every way…for eighteenth century Japan.”
- Jun Po Roshi
Since Zen developed before Western psychology, there was little understanding of the unconscious, childhood trauma, or cultural conditioning. The Mondo approach to Zen of Jun Po offered one of the first attempts to bring together traditional Rinzai koans with modern psychological inquiry. Daiden Dan Pecaut will frame the challenge of each of these two perspectives - traditional Zen and modern psychology - as preparation for how to move into working with both together. Daiden’s dharma reflection will conclude with an interactive discussion. After a short break you are invited to our weekly morning service and zazen practice.
The Fall Practice Period is open to anyone.
There is no fee for this event. A donation is requested.
